Zafferana Etnea, Catania

 

The Octoberfest in Zafferana is dedicated to make you discover the local products of Sicily every Sunday in October every year!

Undisputed protagonists of each Sunday in Zafferana Etnea are in fact the typical products of our land: grapes, wine, mustard, honey, apples, seasonal fruits, mushrooms Etna and oil .

But a large space is dedicated as well to crafts and exhibitions of ancient crafts: puppeteers, sculptors of wood and lava stone and painters of Sicilian carts.

 

LA MACCHINA DEI SOGNI - VIVA PITRE'

Palermo

 

For the second consecutive year, the festival “La Macchina dei Sogni - Viva Pitre" was held in September 2016. It was an exhibition on folk theatre organised by the association Figli d’Arte Cuticchio. The festival created by Mimmo Cuticchio is dedicated to the great Sicilian ethnographer Pitre, the centenary of his death. For the first time, the district has become a stage: many "cabins" similar to the ones in Mondello has welcomed the craftsmen and masters of the ancient crafts and traditions. The festival “La Macchina dei Sogni - Viva Pitre" was sponsored by the City of Palermo.

DISCOVER SICILY DA EATALY

In May 2015, on the occasion of the Sicily Region celebration, Eataly Dubai has brought together producers and artisans of Sicilian products to show to the Emirati culture the best of Sicilian food, culture and traditions.

Francesco Salamanca, on the occasion of the 50th year of activity, has had the opportunity to expose a dedicated collection of 60 puppets and doing demonstrations on how to build a Sicilian puppet in the store of Eataly Dubai, in Dubai Mall the world biggest shopping mall.

MUSCA' MUSEUM OF THE CARRETTO SICILIANO

During the summer 2015, the city of Taormina has hosted MUSCA, an exceptional museum dedicated to the Sicilian Cart and Opera dei Pupi, two cornerstones of the Sicilian culture.

The main characters were the famous cart, stained with religious scenes or epic-chivalrous, and Sicilian puppets from the Opera dei Pupi, recognised in 2008 by UNESCO as Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. An unmissable event for all lovers of Sicily around the world and to know its history.

Italian Expo is a grand showcase of Italian excellence located in Houston and Chicago that allows guests to experience all things authentically Italian, with over 150 exhibitors from Italy and U.S. in the areas of food, wine, fashion, interior design, tourism, art and entertainment. Francesco Salamanca has participated to this event with his collections of Sicilian puppets hand-made according to the Sicilian traditions.

DUCIEZIO - EXHIBITIONS OF THE Dolce e Gelato Siciliano

Monastero dei Benedettini, Catania

 

On the occasion of the 4th Dolce & Gelato Siciliano exhibition in 2013, Master Chefs from Duciezio from all over Sicily have exposed the main sweet specialties of the Sicilian tradition. The exhibition offered the magical ability to make an exclusive island trip to Sicily in a few minutes.

The Puppet Theatre is recognized by UNESCO as:

L’Ottobrata a Zafferana Etnea è dedicata a farvi scoprire i prodotti tipici della Sicilia tutte le domeniche di Ottobre ogni anno!

Indiscussi protagonisti di ciascuna domenica a Zafferana Etnea sono infatti i prodotti tipici della terra e i loro derivati: l’uva, il vino, la mostarda, il miele, le mele, la frutta di stagione, i funghi porcini dell’Etna e l’olio.

Ma un’ampio spazio è dedicato anche ai prodotti artigianali e alle mostre degli antichi mestieri: pupari, scultori del legno e della pietra lavica, pittori di sponde di carretti siciliani, ricamatrici, lavoratori del ferro battuto.
